Volume 2 of the UKPMS User Manual represents the updated UKPMS Visual Survey Manual which has been produced under the auspices of the UKPMS Visual Survey Subgroup (VSS). The input of the VSS is acknowledged in Chapter 8.
The second revision to Chapters 1, 5 and 6 includes the following changes:

Minimum areas and lengths and distances between defects are defined
Guidance on the recording of "Up to Standard" defect has been included
The recording of chipping loss for off-carriageway defects has been incorporated
The provision to record edge defects on kerbed roads has been removed
The definitions for major and minor chipping on carriageways (DVI) have been clarified
Photographs have been updated
Minor changes to defect descriptions have been made
The recommendation that people who deal with UKPMS data shall be qualified under the new accreditation procedure has been made
References to visual survey accrreditation have been updated to the new accreditation regime
References to new BVPIs have been updated
The requirement for joint inventory when carrying out a concrete survey has been clarified
